This post is about the importance and necessity of boundaries, something that we should practice and implement regularly. I've mentioned this so many times in so many posts that I'm sure I sound like a broken record (an expression that no doubt makes more sense to us "older" folks.) It's just that I can't stress enough the importance of them. Boundaries not only help us prioritize our needs, they also teach other people how we want - and expect - to be treated. Without them securely in place, we lose our identity. We get pushed aside, trampled on, taken advantage of and steered in a direction that is not right for us. A lack of boundaries invites disrespect and mistreatment. Don't hesitate to create healthy boundaries. You are not being unreasonable, selfish or insensitive. You are simply asserting your limits and communicating your needs.
A boundary is only a problem for those who benefit from you having none. Set and enforce them. Those who truly care about you will not retaliate, cut you off or use manipulative tactics to get you to drop them. They will honour them. 🔮
